- Details about where the women, children, elderly, and sick people actually went became clearer because of the video. I didn't realize that they all were sent to death once they arrived at Auschwitz. How clueless the people were about what was really happening in the concentration camps was shocking. They saw it happen in front of their eyes everyday & til this day, the survivors still won't believe it.
2. Describe the video techniques used to tell this story:
- Camera angles - The way the cameras panned and how it showed different views of the camp showed the enormity and horror of the situation.
- Graphics - The actual footage and pictures from the Holocaust really added authenticity and drama to the documentary.
- Interviewing - Oprah wasn't just trying to get information out of Wiesel because it was her job, but she was really trying to understand and imagine how he felt when he was living in the camp as he walked her through the camp and told his story. She wanted to get to know him on a deeper level.
- Excerpts from the book - The excerpts that were used in the video were placed in the right scenes to add a personal thought.
-The "madness" they spoke of was generally the inhumanity of humans. How much hate could be against a certain group of people, enough to torture & kill them, was insane in itself.
